I normally make my soda bread with buttermilk but I forgot to buy any. So I found a couple of recipes that didn’t use it and changed them a little to suit me. The taste and texture is different from my usual recipe but it was a lot quicker and easier to make so we may stick with this in the future
Ingredients:
- 800g Plain Flour
- 1 Level Teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda
- 1 Level Teaspoons Cream of Tartar
- 1 Level Teaspoon of Salt
- 120ml Milk
Method:
Preheat oven to gas mark 5; 190C; 380F
Add all the dry ingredients together
Add the milk, mixing with a knife until it becomes a moist elastic dough
Put flour on your hands and worktop and form the doughinto a round using your hands
Place on a greased and floured baking tray and make a cross on the top with a knife
Bake for 30-40 minutes
I found this recipe in The Kitchen Witch book by Soraya
