Honeybuns sell a range of gluten free, dairy free and vegan friendly cakes and biscuits throughout the UK.  This is a review of their cakes by my husband.  I should add this is the husband who is not impressed at all by gluten free products he has tried in the past.

Tom:

“HONEYBUNS

Never heard of them I here you say, no neither had I, until my wife was lucky enough to win a competition for a tin of their delicious mini cakes.

Nothing special about that! Lots of firms make nice cakes, which is exactly what I thought when my wife gave me one to try,  yes they were very, very tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary, until she told me they were gluten free.

Now I don’t know about you but to me the words gluten free and nice or tasty just don’t go together, so you will understand when I say these were a bit of a revelation, the tin we won contained six different varieties of cake and without exception they were all delicious, but one in particular stood out and that was the Heathcliff Brownie, which to paraphrase our American cousins was to die for, It was seriously tasty, so much so I immediately asked my wife to order some more,  unfortunately that’s where we hit a little snag, at least as far as we were concerned.

You see they are rather expensive for someone who doesn’t have any wheat or gluten allergies or intolerance and my wife’s is only minor, we couldn’t really warrant the expense when ordinary confectionery works out cheaper, however to anyone with a serious intolerance or something like celiac, who craves something nice in the way of cakes I can’t recommend them highly enough, and I’m sure that in that instance they would be worth every penny.”

Update from me; We will be buying the Heathcliff Brownie again as a traybake, I will probably get it as a treat for my husband’s birthday in spring (he never reads this so I’m safe). I am also seriously considering buying myself the recipe book
