IBS is a debilitating condition that affects around 11% of the world’s population, unfortunately I am one of the 11%. There are multiple foods that are common triggers for IBS, the hard part is working out what your own triggers are.
Some of the main triggers are:
- Insoluble Fibre
- Gluten
- Dairy
- Fried Foods
- Caffeinated Drinks
- Beans & Legumes
- Processed Foods
- Sugar Free Sweeteners
- Alcohol (Sorry about this)
- Chocolate (Even more sorry about this one)
- Garlic, Onions, Broccoli & Cauliflower
Symptoms vary from person to person so there isn’t a specific list of foods to avoid that would suit everybody. The main thing is trial & error until you find what foods are causing your problems.
I have personally tried switching to a high fibre diet, a gluten free diet & a low fat diet. None of these totally cleared my symptoms but helped a little.
So, I am now following the FODMAP diet. I will be sharing recipes, both sweet & savoury as we make them.
It’s going to take a while but I will gradually work out some recipes so I don’t have to eat boiled potatoes and carrots for every meal. Here are the recipes we have sorted so far, which are FODMAP and/or Gluten Free there will be more coming soon
